Waterfall Tabletop

A study in contrasts, this piece balances the organic, fluid movement of Art Nouveau with the graphic solidity of Art Deco. Using the dark, large quilt of the Makore against the lighter, fine quilt of the Tamo Ash, a mesmerizing illusion of a gleaming waterfall is created. The high chatoyance (tiger eye-like waves) of the two woods lends itself to the effortless flow across the tabletop plain. The influence of Japanese woodblock print styles is also in evidence.

Appraised for its craftsmanship and beauty, the waterfall tabletop was selected for display at Art Maui 2009.
